Public Notice - Parking Enforcement Devices

Public Notice
Wood-Ridge Police Department
March 3, 2025

Parking enforcement devices (“Safety Sticks”) have been installed at certain intersections in the business districts on Valley Boulevard and Hackensack Street.  These Safety Sticks are the same devices that were installed in Hasbrouck Heights last year.

Safety Sticks take a picture of vehicles parked in a no parking zone longer than 60 seconds. The picture is transmitted to the Wood-Ridge Police Department which will issue a parking ticket and mail it to the vehicle’s owner.

Vehicles illegally parked on yellow curbs near corners obstruct traffic site lines which is a safety hazard for motorists making turns and for pedestrians crossing streets.  Vehicles illegally parked on yellow curbs on side streets also obstruct the two-way flow of traffic on these streets.

The goal of this effort is to stop illegal parking and improve safety, not to issue tickets and collect fines.  We will consider this effort to be 100% successful if illegal parking stops and we never have to issue a ticket.  We will also be monitoring the business districts to take enforcement action against motorists who perform U-Turns, speed, or engage in other unsafe driving practices.

The Wood-Ridge Police Department is committed to keeping our community and its residents safe.  We thank you for your anticipated cooperation in this effort.
